The Norcross City Council recently tabled an ordinance to establish a Historic Preservation Commission, which would be able to provide for designation of Historic Properties or Historic Districts. As written, the ordinance also provides for issuance of certificates of appropriateness and provides for an appeals procedure.
If established, the city hopes to preserve the historical, cultural and aesthetic heritage of the city and to stimulate revitalization of the business districts and historic neighborhoods and to protect and enhance local historic and aesthetic attractions to tourists. The city also hopes the district will enhance opportunities for federal or state tax benefits and prospects for grant funding.
