For years, drivers in downtown Duluth hesitated with looks of confusion as they tried to navigate the three-way stop in the center of town. Local drivers understood that those crossing the railroad tracks had the right-of-way, but drivers new to the area were often befuddled.

But as of Thursday, a new traffic signal at West Lawrenceville Street and Main Street/State Route 120 will put all doubts aside. Officials hope the new traffic lights, which will be coordinated with train traffic, will improve traffic flow and driver safety.

Drivers are asked to use extra caution in the area while they become accustomed to the new lights and traffic movement.
