Cobb County residents now have a dedicated space where they can blow off some steam by chucking axes into pieces of wood.

American Axes opened to the public Friday at 821 Livingston Court Suite G in Marietta. The Cobb Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The Cobb facility includes a main throwing room that has single target lanes, several televisions, a vintage video game console and VIP space to host groups of up to 12 people.

“We are very excited to be a new member of the thriving Marietta and Cobb County entertainment community,” said owner Dan Fisher.

The sport of ax throwing has grown over the past decade. The World Axe Throwing League has teams in 19 countries and more than 6,000 members, according to its website.

Fisher said American Axes is the first dedicated axe throwing facility in Cobb County. Ironmonger Brewing Company in Marietta has a smaller axe throwing component at its brewery at 2129 Northwest Parkway Suite 105.

American Axes does not serve alcohol on its premises. However, Schoolhouse Brewing is located within the same business park as American Axes. Customers can pick up a sealed container of beer from the brewery and take those beverages with them to the ax throwing facility, American Axes' website said.
