Cobb County Board of Education members voted 7-0 Wednesday to review their August vote when they agreed 4-2-1 to expand the new theater for North Cobb High School from 750 seats to 1100 for an extra $3 million.

They are referring the matter to the Facilities and Technology Citizens Oversight Committee which previously recommended denial of the theater expansion and will meet Monday.

The board members are expected to review the oversight committee’s decision at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Cobb Central Office, 514 Glover St., Marietta.

Opposed to the expansion in August were David Banks and Susan Thayer, saying they thought the theater expansion should be centrally located.

Also, Thayer noted Wednesday the special purpose local option sales tax budget for school projects is estimated to continue on its trek of being 6 percent under projections or $48 million below budget.

Chairman Randy Scamihorn proposed the theater expansion to serve all of Cobb and the projected increasing population of North Cobb High which is in his district.

Croft and Associates of Kennesaw was approved 6-0-1 in August as the architect for $882,856.

Construction is expected to begin in May with completion by the end of 2017 with a nearly $20.7 million budget but $17.7 million without the theater expansion.
