Three new members of the Fayette County Public Arts Committee were unanimously confirmed by the Board of Commissioners on Aug. 8.

Artist and art teacher Takiyah Claytor will immediately begin serving an unexpired term originally held by Janice Holmgaard that ends on May 31, 2022. Sculptor and illustrator Eric Simonsen will replace Heather Cap for a term that expires May 31, 2021, and visual/auditory/performance artist and teacher Brian Nichols will succeed Donna Thompson for a term that also expires in May 2021. The seven-member volunteer committee meets monthly to devise and implement arts projects in public spaces.

The selection committee, which acknowledged all the “extremely good candidates” who were interviewed in July, consisted of arts committee chair Cameron LaFoy, recreation commission chair Charles McCollum, and parks and recreation director Anita Godbee.
