Q: We had lunch delivered recently from Scrubs Grub and was told it had been paid for. Can you tell me about this company?

A: Katherine Drolett and Katrina "Kat" Spivey co-founded the effort with the premise of keeping restaurants in business and providing healthcare workers a good meal free of charge.

“On March 15, we closed for dining. Not because we had to, we thought it was the right thing to do,” said owner of The Nook on Piedmont Park Katherine Drolett. “The outpouring of love and support from our community was fantastic.”

As their neighbors, friends and regulars continued to come in, they wanted to pay it forward for meals for the local hospital workers.

“We were doing that on a small basis and the requests kept coming,” she said. “Every time we made a delivery, we noticed that other restaurants around were doing the same thing and thought it would be great to not only help the struggling restaurants, but also the medical communities, our frontline heroes.”

Spivey, a friend of Drolett’s for at least a decade, called with an idea. It was almost the exact same concept, Drolett said.

“The deliveries are going, which is the most important thing. As donations come in we schedule more deliveries,” Drolett said.

“For every $10 donated we guarantee that a meal will go out to a frontline warrior. We are partnering up with about 30 different restaurants, large and small … One hundred percent of the collected funds go to participating restaurants,” Drolett said.

Donations and volunteers have flooded in. We have remarkable communities, she added.

“By consolidating, our goal is to limit the number of deliveries to the hospital - more food, less people and fewer hospital disruptions,” Drolett said.

She believes that those that deliver have the best part of the job because they get the “super or air high fives” and all the kind words.

“We also want to make sure that no hospital is left behind because we know that there are a lot of other hospitals serving Atlanta communities,” she said.

Over 800 meals have been delivered with 600 scheduled for this week. Currently, $11,000 has been raised.
