A crime reduction task force established by President Barack Obama has named the Marietta Police Department as one of the top three forces in the country for community outreach programs. The President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing has recognized Marietta, Austin, Texas and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police departments for fostering police-community relations. Marietta’s programs include youth Explorers and athletic leagues, a COPS neighborhood program and a citizens police academy.
