A mother is getting the Food and Drug Administration involved after she said her baby threw up from parasites found inside Gerber baby formula.
“He started throwing up all over the place,” Chanda Peck told Channel 2 Action News, “and it wasn’t just spit up. It was projectile and more of it. He was also having diarrhea.”
Peck initially reached out to Gerber about the situation two weeks ago, but when they weren’t as responsive as she had hoped, she called the FDA, Channel 2 reported. FDA officials told the news station they don’t comment on pending cases and wouldn’t confirm if they were indeed testing the formula in question.
Peck dumped several bottles of the Good Start Instant Formula brand each with bugs in them. Peck contacted Gerber who told her they were in the process of taking the can to investigate it, but she hasn’t gotten the return box and label to send the can to them.
“I think other parents need to be aware this is going on,” Peck said. “If they say a whole lot of the (cans) have contamination in it, then that’s going to make a lot of babies sick.”
Gerber officials wouldn’t say where the formula was made and would not say if they have received similar complaints about their formula in an emailed statement, Channel 2 reported. Gerber did tell the news station it’s doubtful the formula didn’t meet health and safety standards.
“Whenever a consumer has a question or concern, we encourage them to contact us immediately,” Gerber said in its statement to the news station. “We treat every consumer call with the utmost care and attention and investigate product concerns thoroughly, including the recent information brought to us by Ms. Peck. As part of our usual procedure, we are in the process of retrieving the product in question to investigate this alleged incident.”

“I just honestly love Gerber,” she said, “I just don’t like the way it’s being handled.”
