Beginning Tuesday, May 28, a “fast-tracked” project to remove a bridge and install a box culvert will require the closing through Aug. 1 of Birmingham Road in Milton, the city announced.
Birmingham will be closed to all but local traffic between Freemanville and Henderson roads, according to a project map. Digital message boards are already in place advising of the upcoming closure.
“This project must be completed on a tight timeline so as not to interfere with school transportation routes; thus, it was scheduled for completion this summer, starting immediately after the Memorial Day weekend,” the city said. “This project will provide for a wider and safer path for motorists and area school buses.”
In February, the Milton City Council awarded a $617,805 project contract to CMES Inc. While the contract specifies the road must reopen on July 31, it says, “every effort will be made by (the) contractor to shorten this period.”
Motorists can use Freemanville and Henderson to bypass the road closure. Information: https://bit.ly/2wgduy9
