Milton residents are invited to comment on the recently released, final draft of the 2027 Parks and Recreation Master Plan during the public comment period of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting Thursday evening, Feb. 21.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Milton City Hall. Comments also will be taken via email. An initial presentation to the City Council is tentatively scheduled for the Monday, March 11, work session. The plan can be viewed at: https://bit.ly/2GRp1dM. Information: info@cityofmiltonga.us
Among its recommendations: acquiring 40 to 60 acres for a new park in the central part of the city; creating a multi-generational indoor center; and completion of a master plan for the Milton County Club, with guidance to the future use of the golf course, and best uses and programming for the clubhouse, pool and tennis courts.
The document also has recommendations for Birmingham, Mayfield Lake, Mayfield Road and Providence parks, and for programming and services and capital and planning needs.
The plan resulted from surveys, focus groups and community meetings; an inventory of city recreational facilities and programs; evaluations of changes in city populations and demographics, and current parks administration and finances; and comparisons to state and national standards, among other factors, according to its executive summary.
