Seeking potential cost savings, the Milton City Council has hired a consultant to audit electrical rates for facilities and streetlights across the North Fulton city.

Under terms of its contract with the city, TriStem Ltd. will be compensated based on the savings it realizes for the city: 40 percent of initial savings realized and 40 percent of any approved billing reductions resulting from its recommendations for 12 months.

TriStem had offered “the most qualified and cost effective choice” of three firms contacted by the city, Milton Finance Director Bernadette Harvill said in a memo to the council.

The consultant will audit prior electrical billing and payments to determine if the amounts billed by vendors are correct, report its findings to the city, and seek refunds for overpayment, according to its professional services agreement.

TriStem also will research possible cost-saving alternatives. Its work is to be completed by Sept. 30, 2019.
