Millage rates for the new fiscal year’s property taxes have been finalized in Fayette County.

The Board of Commissioners confirmed a 4.392 mill rate for the unincorporated parts of the county at its Aug 22 meeting; its 2020 budget will give 9 percent raises to public safety officers. Teacher raises factored into the Board of Education’s vote on Aug. 21 to set its rate at 19.25 mills, which is .25 mills lower than last year but still above the rollback rate. The City Council of Peachtree City voted on Aug. 22 to keep its maintenance and operations millage rate at 6.232, but cut its former 0.176 bond millage rate to zero. Fayetteville’s City Council on Aug. 29 voted to maintain its rate at 5.646 mills, which is 4.23 percent over the rollback rate. Tyrone’s rate will stay at 2.889 mills for the sixth straight year; Brooks lowered its rate from 0.68 mills to 0.627.

All millage rates that were set at or above the rollback rates will result in higher tax bills for any homeowners whose property has an increased assessed value this year.
