A nearly month-long police operation resulted in the arrest of two men on drug trafficking charges Thursday night at a Cobb County apartment complex.

The joint operation between Cobb County police and Homeland Security investigations led to the arrests of 43-year-old Orlando Hernandez-Gomez of Mableton and 36-year-old Juan Carlos Isidor-Luna of Sandy Springs. Each is facing a charge of cocaine trafficking, and both men were in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center as of Friday afternoon, according to Sgt. Dana Pierce of the Cobb County Police Department.

Pierce said the arrests came after officials set up a reverse buy Thursday night at the Mountain Park Estates apartment complex in Kennesaw.

“Through a source, they found a fairly high-level Mexican — what they call DTO, drug-trafficking organization — who has dealt in the past with heroin, meth, cocaine and marijuana. Apparently that high-level DTO, as they call him, attempted to purchase a fairly large quantity of cocaine when he was arrested,” Pierce said. “He was arrested at that apartment complex when the reverse buy took place.

“One of our suspects had taken a taxi to that location, so the agents had been there set up throughout the day waiting for him to arrive.”

Though Pierce said the amount of cocaine involved in the operation could not be revealed, he said the amount of drugs in question was significant.

“There are narcotics cases in Cobb County, to whatever degree, probably every week, but to this degree with what was described as a substantial or a large amount of cocaine, probably not,” he said.

Pierce said no additional arrests are expected in connection to this police operation.
