During his Tuesday State of the City address Decatur Mayor Jim Baskett spoke briefly, though significantly, of the city’s proposed annexation.

“It appears,” he said, “that our prospects are closely linked to the success or failure of the new cities of Tucker and LaVista Hills.”

This nearly echoes remarks of former Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd, now director of the DeKalb Municipal Association. As mayor, Floyd favored limited annexation so the city would have “more commercial control.”

But in a recent interview Floyd said, “I don’t think the Decatur/Avondale [Esates] annexation will go anywhere until the county government gives the O.K. for moving forward, and they won’t do that until [Tucker/LaVista Hills] pass.”
