MARTA on Thursday announced a series of discount options for riders, including on unlimited weekend passes and 30-day passes.

For $10.50 each, the “Ride the Weekend Pass” provides individuals and families unlimited rides on MARTA buses and trains Saturdays and Sundays, the authority said. Passes are on sale until June 30, but customers can use them any weekend.

“Weekends in Atlanta offer a full range of activities and attractions that MARTA customers now have even more reason to take advantage of,” MARTA CEO Keith Parker said in a news release.

Also, MARTA will sell discounted 30-day unlimited passes for $71, which is 25 percent off regular price. The 30-day unlimited passes will be on sale from May 17 until May 31 and can be used at any time.

Riders could purchase as many as eight of the discounted monthly passes at a time, if their Breeze Card has enough space, a MARTA spokesman said.

Parker said the discounts aim to attract tourists and infrequent riders to events around town.

The deals also come as Atlanta is dealing with traffic woes after the I-85 bridge collapse, an episode which some observers feel could end up benefiting MARTA and the public's view of its necessity.
