Once again the Marietta school board plans to keep the school property tax rate at 17.97 mills.

The board has kept the millage rate at the same level for nine years.

Because the rate is lower than the rollback millage rate, the board is not required to hold the usual three public hearings required before finalizing the rate.

The school board will ratify the rate with a vote July 26.

Last month the school board unanimously passed a$74.2 million budget for fiscal 2011, an 8 percent, or $6.6 million, decrease from the fiscal 2010 spending plan.
