The Marietta City Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Council Chambers, Marietta City Hall, 205 Lawrence St. on proposed design guidelines for the Church Cherokee Streets Historic District.
These guidelines comprise 122 pages, covering rehabilitation of existing structures, additions, new construction and demolition of existing structures.
The district would include 124 properties, including the five-acre Ivy Grove at 473 Cherokee St., built in 1845, and newly owned by Marietta Councilman Philip Goldstein.
Goldstein has said he wants his property exempted since he doesn’t want the city to say what must be done with it.
Once the guidelines are adopted by the commission, city staff will send ballots to the 124 property owners to return within 60 days.
If there is 60 percent approval, another public hearing will be held by the commission before the final decision.
The commission will draw the draft of the map and the City Council can change the draft guidelines.
