Marietta has bought 1.6 acres at Polk Street and Burnt Hickory Road that will be maintained as greenspace. The property on the northeast corner of Polk could be used in the future as a rest area or trail node for walkers using a county trail system. Funds for the corner park will come from a $25 million parks bond Marietta voters passed in 2009. Marietta paid Whitaker Investments $40,000 for the property and also gave Whitaker almost two acres the city owns on Chicopee Drive off Cherokee Street.
