A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the statutory rape of a 13-year-old Cobb County girl whose child he fathered.

Cesar Solis was convicted on Thursday, and was sentenced by Cobb Superior Court Chief Judge Adele Grubbs.

The victim gave birth in June, and tests showed that Solis, who had earlier been charged with rape, fathered the victim’s child, according to Kim Isaza, spokeswoman for the Cobb District Attorntey’s office.

Isaza said defense attorneys argued at trial that the girl and Solis were having a relationship and that there was no force, and jurors ultimately convicted Solis of the lesser crime of statutory rape.

Solis has been held without bond since his arrest last December.
