The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved working with the state to start planning improvements for the interchanges of I-575 at Towne Lake and Ridgewalk parkways in Woodstock.

Commissioners approved project framework agreements with the Georgia Department of Transportation. Various combinations of new turn lanes and widened ramps are envisioned to improve traffic flow at the interchanges. Also, Towne Lake would be widened between Woodstock Parkway and Mill Street.

The county has been awarded $352,788 in federal planning funds for the Towne Lake project, and $295,917 for the Ridgewalk project. A local match of at least 20 percent is required.

This phase of the work is “to finalize the project concept and to determine an accurate project scope, schedule and budget for requesting additional funding for the final engineering design and construction,” staff said in a report to commissioners. “The county is currently advertising for proposals for design consultants for this project and hopes to award the scoping phase in September.”
