Land is being cleared on 46 acres on North River Drive in Lilburn for a 148-lot subdivision called East Highlands by CalAtlantic. The Lilburn Planning and Economic Development Department has permitted the project, but the developer has not submitted building plans at this point.

The contractor has drained Nash Lake, the small lake on the property, so that the outlet structure and dam can be upgraded. Lilburn and other government agencies will continue to inspect the site throughout construction.

The project is one of about 11 building projects or renovations currently underway in the city. The new Lilburn City Hall and Gwinnett County Public Library will open its doors at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 340 Main St.

Renovations or expansions are proceeding at Walmart, Las Margaritas, Burger King and AutoMax. Two new convenience stores are under review for US 29 at Harmony Grove Road, and the corner of Indian Trail Road and Hillcrest Road. In addition, the former We Buy Gold building on US 29 at Inland Way may become the location of a new Hardee’s.
