Cobb County has cancelled its planned event to celebrate the opening of the new Fire Station No. 1 in Mableton.

The forecast calling for the potential of severe weather Saturday forced the county to postpone the event. A new date will be announced in the future.

Mableton will welcome the new Cobb Fire Station 1 on Jan. 11.

The fire station is located at 5781 Mableton Parkway, Mableton.

A parade will begin at 11 a.m. with bagpipes and an honor guard, leading the parade from the old fire station at 5656 Mableton Parkway to the new one across the street.

The procession also will include the Pebblebrook High School Marching Band, all of the fire apparatus and community members and organizations.

Then the opening ceremony will begin at 11:45 a.m. followed by the open house at noon, according to a county statement.
