The Lilburn City Council voted Monday to extend the moratorium placed on the acceptance of applications for the construction of new townhome developments by 120 days. On Jan. 13 the city adopted a moratorium on the acceptance of applications for the construction of new townhome developments until April 12.

According to city documents at the time, the mixed-use district was established to encourage development in Lilburn’s city center at a higher density of up to 22 units per acre. The city now feels they need extra time to develop additional standards for mixed-use development “to regulate the explosion of townhomes in the city.”

The moratorium will now remain in place until Aug. 10 allowing additional time for staff to consult with zoning and legal experts on solutions, including a text amendment to the zoning code.
