The Lilburn City Council is considering an ordinance to prohibit donation drop boxes within city limits. There are currently about 20 drop boxes for clothing and other donations in parking lots throughout the city.
Last year, Lilburn passed an ordinance to address unmarked drop boxes appearing in parking lots without the property owner’s approval. Effective October 2013, the ordinance limits the number and size of drop boxes and requires a $100 permit so that box owners can be tracked.
The city has found the ordinance ineffective at reducing the number of unclaimed drop boxes. As a result, a complete ban is proposed.
