Worried about natural gas explosions? For $2,000 Lawrenceville residents can have Excess Flow Valves installed in the natural gas pipe running to the gas meter at each residence. EFVs are mechanical shut-off devices designed to shut off most of the flow of natural gas automatically if the service line breaks, for example, by an excavation accident. Stopping the flow of gas from a broken service line significantly reduces the risk of natural gas fire, explosion, personal injury and/or property damage.

Residents requesting the installation of an excess flow valve will be contacted by the city to discuss specifics of installation and maintenance. EFVs cannot be installed on some service lines due to high gas flow, low pressure or other factors.

Residents interested in having an EFV will need to request and pay $2,000 to cover the cost of equipment and installation.
