The Lawrenceville City Council moved one step closer last week to a revision of property maintenance requirements for undeveloped property within the city. The council approved a first read of the proposed amendment which will further clarify how grass, weeds and uncultivated vegetation is maintained.
The city’s property maintenance ordinance already requires grass, weeds and uncultivated vegetation be no taller than 12 inches. Additional wording requires property owners must also keep the weeds from encroaching on adjacent properties and maintain the right-of-way from the property line to the street curb.
The ordinance does not apply to undeveloped property and to portions of developed property where the intent is to leave the property in its natural state. However, additional restrictions will be added to require the 12-inch height maintenance for 20 feet back along the right-of-way frontage, and 20 feet along the sides and back of properties when the undeveloped lot is adjacent to developed property. Exceptions include stream and zoning buffers.
The city council will have a second read and vote on the amended requirements at the next city council meeting Feb. 6.
