A Lawrenceville couple was arrested and charged with 14 counts of animal cruelty, police say.

Animal control transported 15 animals from their home Tuesday.

Police responded to an animal cruelty complaint by a neighbor and found Justin and Buffy Sims housing several malnourished animals at their home on Forest Place.

According to the police report, several dogs that were kept in the back yard were skeletal with their ribs showing . Fly bites were visible and several dogs appeared injured.

Fresh water and food was not available to the animals outdoors. Inside the home, hallways and floors were covered in smeared animal feces.

When asked by police what the dogs were fed, Buffy Sims said leftovers because she had not received her check to purchase dog food.

Animal control transported 12 dogs, two cats and one Guinea pig to a veterinarian for evaluation and treatment.

The Sims are charged with 14 counts of animal cruelty each.
