Good news for I-85 southbound commuters who have dealt with two mornings of sluggish traffic while crews worked to repair a collapsed storm drain: the damaged drainage structure has been repaired, and the two left lanes approaching Clairmont Road have reopened.
Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation, said late Wednesday morning that the HOV and adjacent left lane of the interstate would reopen Wednesday afternoon.
“They are paving in several layers and then it must be re-striped,” McKinnon said of the work that was still to be done before the lanes could be reopened.
DOT spokesman David Spear said crews began working before Monday’s afternoon rush hour to repair the drainage structure and fill a void that was created beneath the pavement.
