The Kennesaw City Council voted 3-2 Monday to allow the city’s voters to decide whether to limit terms of their elected officials, but the Nov. 3 vote would be nonbinding.

Opposed were councilmen Leonard Church and Tim Killingsworth.

Supporters were councilmembers Jim Sebastian, Debra Williams and Cris Eaton-Welsh.

Eaton-Welsh has been promoting limits of two terms for mayor and two terms for city council members.

If passed, the council would decide whether to approve term limits followed by adoption by the Georgia General Assembly since it would involve a change to the city’s charter.
