Kennesaw sanitation customers will have their recyclables picked up every other week, beginning Aug. 1.
The collection day for recyclables will be on the same day as the normal trash collection.
Republic Services, the city’s contract trash/recycle collection vendor, is experiencing higher costs, including landfill costs, which they are passing on to the city, according to a city statement.
Maintaining the current schedule for all services would have resulted in a 17 percent increase in the city’s contract, an increase that would have been passed onto residents.
To keep the monthly fee from increasing, the recycle pickup schedule is being revised to save 7 percent of the extra cost with the city absorbing the additional 10 percent.
The reduced volume resulting from glass no longer being accepted curbside should provide most recycle containers with a two-week capacity.
However, if needed, customers will be given the opportunity to request extra bins or larger carts at no extra cost.
The Public Works Department offers 64-gallon and 95-gallon carts.
