Kennesaw is one of top 20 safest cities in Georgia

Kennesaw is the only Cobb County city listed among the top 20 safest cities in Georgia by SafeWise.com.

Of the 100 Georgia cities in the rankings, Kennesaw ranks 11th and was 13th last year.

Georgia’s safest cities have an average violent crime rate of 1.86 per 1,000 residents, which is about half the national average, and a property crime rate that is nearly 30 percent less than most U.S. cities.

Also, one-third of Georgia’s safest cities reported less than one incident of violent crime per 1,000 residents, and 80 percent (or 32 of the 40 cities on the list) reported no murders.

SafeWise.com annually names the safest cities in every state by analyzing the most recent FBI Crime Report data of cities with 4,000 or more residents in 2013.

The number of violent crimes (murder, robbery, forcible rape and aggravated assault) as well as property crimes (burglary, arson, motor vehicle theft and larceny-theft) in each city are examined, then calculated to find how often these crimes were reported per 1,000 people.
