Current and future Kennesaw elected officials no longer will receive retirement benefits.

This decision was made Monday 4-0 by the Kennesaw City Council with Councilmember Nimesh Patel absent.

Also, a former elected official, who is not in office as of April 5 and who returns to office after April 5, will not receive future retirement benefits. However, the new ordinance does not affect retirement benefits of former elected officials such as imprisoned Leonard Church.

A former two-time mayor and councilmember, Church is serving an 18-year prison term for child molestation and sexual exploitation of children.
