Construction was to begin Monday on “traffic calming” measures to Buice Road in Johns Creek that officials said would entail lane closures and delays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

The improvements will promote safe pedestrian access and discourage speeding, according to an announcement by Johns Creek. These will include mini roundabouts, traffic shifts, splitter islands and landscaped medians.

Also, existing speed tables will be removed, and the road will be resurfaced. The project is expected to be completed in early October, weather permitting.

In May, the Johns Creek City Council awarded a $589,743 construction contract to CMEC LLC to improve Buice between Kimball Bridge and Jones Bridge roads. A joint project with Alpharetta, the latter city is contributing $250,000 toward the work.
