The Johns Creek City Council has set a Nov. 3 special election date to fill two unexpired terms.

Former council members Brad Raffensperger and Kelly Stewart resigned in November to run for the State House District 50 seat. Council members considered potential special election dates in March and June on Monday night, but voted 4-1 for November, the same day as the general election.

Council members cited several factors for the decision, including a lower cost to the city with a November vote, voter fatigue, and the feeling that March would be too soon to allow candidacies to jell.

Raffensperger’s Post 2 term expires at the end of December, while Stewart’s Post 5 runs through December 2017

City officials contend that, since all council members are elected at-large, no area of the city will suffer for lack of representation between now and November.
