After an initial move to reduce the speed limits on three local streets, followed by a traffic study to show if the lower speeds were justified, Johns Creek is revising its plans and will not call for as great a speed reduction as originally planned.

This summer, the speed limits for Bell Road between Ga. 141 and Boles Road, Boles Road between Bell Road and Abbott Bridge Road and Sargent Road between Johns Bridge and McGinnis Ferry roads were reduced from 45 to 35 mph. New speed limit signs were posted.

But a subsequent traffic analysis, required for Georgia Department of Transportation approval of police radar to enforce the speed limit, showed the speed limit for Bell should have stayed 45 mph, while that for Boles and Sargent could be reduced, but only to 40 mph. New speed limit signs were to be posted shortly.

The City Council approved the revised speed limits in a vote to renew its three-year radar permit application with the state for streets throughout the city.
