Johns Creek is set to get a new shopping center with room for restaurants and retail.

The Johns Creek City Council unanimously approved the 32,000-square-foot development Monday night.

Jim Fisher, a Texas developer, told the City Council that the currently undeveloped property, 6650 McGinnis Ferry Road, would become Terraces at Johns Creek.

The city's new community development director, Ben Song, told the council that there were plans in 2014 for a 35,000-square-foot day care that never materialized, and the property has remained empty since.

Mayor Mike Bodker reminded the council that before the vote was the time to add any stipulations blocking certain types of the businesses into the future center.

After a short recess, the council came back and excluded several types of businesses from opening storefronts, including laundromats, funeral homes and lawn care.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution asked Fisher why the project didn’t include the trendiest thing in development: apartments.

He said the site, just over 4.5 acres, was too small to support housing and it was easier to pass without.

Fisher said the development is 60% pre-leased. The following five places have signed:

• Mambo’s Café

• It’s Greek to Us

• Good Fellas Cigar Lounge & Bar

• Coach DeMarco’s Burgers

• La Hacienda

Fisher said he hopes to open just before Thanksgiving next year.
