Johns Creek and Gwinnett County have been awarded grants of $1.5 million apiece to widen State Bridge/Pleasant Hill Road from four to six lanes across the Chattahoochee River.

Johns Creek will widen State Bridge from Medlock Bridge Road to the river, where the highway changes names to Pleasant Hill. Gwinnett will widen the road from the river to McClure Bridge Road in Duluth.

The State Road and Tollway Authority awarded the funds out of the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank. A timetable has not yet been set for construction, a Johns Creek spokeswoman said.

The Johns Creek portion is on the list of projects of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Optional Sales Tax for Fulton County outside the city of Atlanta, approved by Fulton voters last November. On its side of the river, Gwinnett is buying right-of-way to widen Pleasant Hill.
