Amid a standing-room-only crowd Monday night, the Johns Creek City Council voted to deny a request by Racetrac Petroleum to build a convenience store with pumps near the corner of Parsons and Medlock Bridge roads. The vote was 5-1. One council member abstained.

The company had sought to install 20 pumps and a 5,900 square-foot store on the six-acre site. It also agreed to allot four acres for a pocket park. Mayor Mike Bodker said the decision follows the city's development plan, which allows gas stations on Medlock Bridge but prefers they be located at major intersections.
