The installation has begun of artificial turf on five baseball infields at Ocee Park in Johns Creek.

Mayor Mike Bodker, Mayor Pro Tem Lenny Zaprowski, Council members John Bradberry and Steve Broadbent and city staff marked the beginning of the project with a groundbreaking Thursday, Feb. 7. The project is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The Johns Creek City Council in December approved spending up to $644,422 to have Sprinturf LLC install the artificial turf at Ocee Park, 10900 Buice Road.

Similar turf installations by the Johns Creek Recreation and Parks Division at two other parks resulted in a gain of more than 400 practices and games the last two playing seasons, officials said. The Ocee Park Athletic Association, a nonprofit organization, oversees the baseball program at the park. Information: https://bit.ly/2tfanVE
