Having won voter approval to issue $40 million in parks bonds, the Johns Creek City Council on Monday approved conceptual designs for four new city parks.
The council also voted to move forward with the creation of construction documents for the parks — a linear park in Technology Park, a neighborhood park on Morton Road, and two pocket parks on State Bridge Road and at the intersection of Bell and Boles Roads.
The plans are expected to cost $754,778 total, paid for with funds drawn from the parks bond issue, according to a staff report for Monday’s council meeting. A concept design for a fifth new park, at Cauley Creek, is still under discussion.
The parks bonds also will pay for refurbishing four existing properties: Ocee Park, Newtown Park, Shakerag Park, and Autrey Mill Nature Preserve. They also have allowed progress for the Rogers Bridge restoration; the aim is a new, pedestrian/bicyclist span over the Chattahoochee River from Johns Creek to Duluth.
