Jail official, husband charged with stealing from church

The Heard County jail administrator and her husband are free on bond after they were charged with stealing tens of thousands of dollars from their church, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Dena and Gerard Thifault are accused of taking more than $120,000 from Oaklawn Baptist Church in Newnan during a two-year period, investigators said. They were charged with theft by taking.

The couple were treasurer and assistant treasurer of the church.
