The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking input on its latest analysis of how to reduce congestion and improve safety along Ga. 20 from I-575 in Canton to Ga. 400 in Cumming.

A GDOT analysis reduced the number of several earlier alternatives for improving the overburdened roadway to two — widening the existing corridor and widening it with localized bypasses. That followed an earlier series of public sessions in 2013.

Two open houses are planned: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 15) at Calvary Baptist Church, 137 Hightower Road, Ball Ground, and 5-7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Otwell Middle School, 605 Tribble Gap Road, Cumming.

There won’t be a formal presentation at the sessions, but GDOT officials will detail plans and seek feedback from drivers and communities along the route. Following the hearing, transportation planners will finalize alternatives and produce a draft environmental impact statement.
