More than 400 gallons of sewage spilled into a creek in Norcross on Thursday afternoon.

About 469 gallons of sewage entered a tributary of Crooked Creek, said Karen Shields, water resources spokeswoman for Gwinnett County.

The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources was notified of the spill, which happened at 3079 Crossing Park Road, around 4:30 p.m., and the overflow was stopped by 7:20 p.m.

The area contains offices and other businesses.

To help mitigate the effects of the spill, workers raked the area and spread lime. Signs letting residents know about the spill have been placed in the area.

The cause of the spill was tree roots, officials said.
