Between July 13 and Aug. 4, three stray roosters were found in Lawrenceville, in apparently unrelated situations. In each case, property owners called animal control about the loud birds. All three are now living at the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter, awaiting the day when they get their own cozy coop.
Here is how each rooster ended up at the shelter:
On July 13, Ralph was found as a stray on Capital Circle Northwest in Lawrenceville, a street off of Purcell Road with multiple warehouses and industrial businesses. The person who called animal control said Ralph was being “aggressive.” By the time animal control workers arrived, Ralph had made his way into a warehouse. Animal control workers could not find owner information, so they took Ralph to the animal shelter. Shelter workers believe he’s about a year old.
A Lawrenceville woman called animal control on July 31 after seeing Norton strutting around in her backyard in a residential subdivision. Animal control workers could not find ownership information about the bird, so he was taken to the animal shelter. He is about 3 years old, according to the shelter.
Buckeye was found running around a Lawrenceville backyard near the Yellow River on Aug. 4. When animal control workers could not determine who Buckeye belonged to, they took him to the shelter. Buckeye is believed to be a year old and has a “wonderful, lively personality,” according to shelter staff.
Contact the shelter at 770-339-3200 for information about adopting any of these roosters (or any other pet in their custody).
The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
