Holly Springs has been named a Main Street America community, a designation that recognizes cities that commit to preserve and revitalize their older and historic commercial districts.

In 2015, its first year, the Holly Springs Main Street program created 13 jobs and brought sanitary sewers to the downtown area, Main Street Director Erin Honea said.

“Visitors can expect to see the completion of sidewalks and streetscapes soon as the city prepares for the construction of a revitalized downtown area, which will include a new civic building (and) event green space as well as office, retail, residential and dining options,” Honea said.

The accreditation follows an evaluation by the Georgia Main Street Program, which works with the National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
