As the 2016 Occupation Tax Certificate renewal season approaches, the city of Hiram is considering a change to the method of calculating occupation taxes. Currently, it is determined by the number of employees at each location. In addition to the number of employees’ method, state law provides for other options as well, including flat fee, gross receipts and profitability.

The city of Hiram is considering a method using a combination of gross receipts and profitability.

Public hearings regarding this matter will be 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1 and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6at the Hiram Community Center/Council Chambers, 217 Main St.

The mayor and council will make a decision on this proposed tax change at the Oct. 6 council meeting.
