A senior from Union Grove High School and one from Strong Rock Christian School will represent Henry County in the regional competition of the state's STAR program, the county school district said Thursday.

Abby Cornell from Union Grove and Will Miller from Strong Rock were chosen Thursday to go to the next level of the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program during Henry County’s annual STAR Breakfast hosted by the Henry County Chamber of Commerce.

STAR students are seniors with the highest SAT scores at their high school. They must also be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

Each student also chooses a teacher -- usually someone who has had the most influence on his/her academics -- to be honored and accompany them in the competition. Cornell is joined by Ashleigh Eidson while Miller chose Rita Poole as his teacher.

Seventeen seniors from the south metro district competed for the honor. The winners move on to March 24 regional competition in Newnan. If either wins at regional, they can proceed to the April 27 state contest in Duluth.
