A code amendment in Henry County will allow illluminated signs for religious facilities under conditional use permits on residentially zoned property.

The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted May 2 to amendment its unified land development code regarding illuminated signs, which have been prohibited on properties that are zoned residential. The amendment will allow them in residential zoning districts on properties with conditional use permits utilized for religious facilities.

Several representatives of a local church spoke in favor of the move, saying it would allow the congregation to promote various community initiatives it offers much more effectively. The vote was unanimous.
