The Henry County Board of Commissioners is considering a proposed $161 million general fund budget for the 2020 fiscal year, which starts July 1.
It was presented at the first budget hearing during the commissioners’ April 16 regular meeting. The next hearing is May 7 and the board is scheduled to adopt the budget that day, although discussions suggested an additional workshop could be scheduled and the vote delayed. The proposed budget has no increase in the millage rate and no reduction in current services, according to county staff. Public safety accounts for 54 percent of proposed new budget expenditures, and property taxes amount to 57 percent of revenue.
The budget assumes a 4.75-percent increase in the property tax digest and a 2.9-percent rise in local-option sales tax revenue compared to the current fiscal year.
