The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its Feb. 18 regular meeting to deny a rezoning request for a 1.15-acre piece of property at the intersection of Hampton-Locust Grove Road and Rocky Creek Road.

The applicant’s stated reason was “to develop a consumer and durable goods sales establishment,” according to a staff report, and several references were made during the meeting to a proposed dollar store on the site. A number of local residents came the meeting to voice their opposition to the request, saying that the area should remain rural and residential.

That sentiment was shared by county staff as well as the Zoning Advisory Board, which recommended denial before the commissioners’ vote.
